SPECIAL DELIVERIES!!!!!!

Saving horses from the kill pens and slaughter pipelines is a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year effort.  We all work to the brink of exhaustion trying to help these majestic creatures that have given so much to us throughout our lives.  This great nation was built on the backs of horses and deserve dignity and respect.  They are not garbage to toss out when you no longer have any use for them....  They are our pets, our companions, members of our family and deserve the same unconditional love that they give to us.....

For those who are not aware, it is illegal to send any pregnant mares to slaughter that have a chance to deliver sometime during transport yet pregnant mares can be found by the thousands at every auction, kill pen, and feed lot across this country.  Every one of our mares has been rescued from one of these sites along the slaughter pipeline.  Had we not taken a stand and rescued these magnificent mares, two souls would have been lost forever.

These "Special Deliveries" bring all of us at the rescue such joy and hope for the future..  They are all "Precious Gifts" that have a purpose and something to teach each one of us.   Each foal just like any other spirit on this earth effects every single soul that it comes into contact with in some way.  I am so blessed to be a part of this rescue and to be able to tell you their story.   As you look at their pictures below, look into their eyes and see their souls......Don't just watch life pass by on the sidelines.....Take action.... Be their voice.....Give back to these beautiful creatures.....

CHINA AND CHINA ROSE

China and China Rose....

China Rose, what a precious miracle of life.....

HOPE AND HOPE'S HARMONY...

Hope is as quiet and gentle as they come.  She is a stunning, "stop you in your tracks" Strawberry Roan Tennessee Walking mare.  She was sent to auction pregnant and was rescued by Rocky's Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation from a kill pen in November of 2014.  She received the care she needed and had a healthy filly on May 1st, 2015 named "Hope's Harmony" or "Harmony" for short....

BELLA AND BAM BAM....

Bella was rescued from auction the weekend of Memorial Day 2015.  She did not show any signs of pregnancy over the next 11 months.  Then on Cinco De Mayo day (May 5th) the rescue received a SURPRISE "Special Delivery" of Bam Bam...  Our joy quickly switched to pain and worry as shortly after birth, Bam Bam became very sick and both he and Bella were rushed to an Equine Hospital in West Virginia.  Bam Bam is what we term as a "Dummy Foal".  It refers to a foal that has experienced a period of time where it was deprived of Oxygen, either during development from lack of proper prenatal care or during the birthing process itself.  Within 24-48 hours after birth these foals display abnormal and/or neurologic symptoms and require specialized medical care.  It is related in human terms to a condition similar to Autism.  Foals with this syndrome suffer problems with multiple organs and/or infection.  In Bam Bam's case he quickly became septic ( a blood infection) and all four of his legs/joints became very swollen.  Bam Bam is a gorgeous healthy colt today thanks to knowledgeable caregivers and a few answered prayers..... He is bonded with Sharon and will follow her around anywhere.... He truly is our little miracle!!!!!

Bella and Bam Bam happy and healthy.....

CANYON AND SMOKEY.......

Canyon was rescued from a kill pen in Pennsylvania.  She is a registered Tennessee Walking Horse and is 12 years old.  Just six weeks out of the kill pen, she delivered a healthy colt that we named "Smokey".  Just recently Smokey has found his forever home and is doing well in his new home in New York.  We wish them a long life together......

FANCY(2) AND BABY MAX......

Fancy (2) was rescued from auction in the summer of 2016.  Like so many of our rescued mares we weren't even aware that she was pregnant when we rescued her.  Over the next several weeks with proper nutrition and care, Fancy developed an obvious "belly" and had bagged up.  She was transferred to our birthing stall and the waiting game had commenced.  In a little over a week we welcomed and healthy baby colt to the rescue that we named Max.  It adds to our hearts when we save two lives instead of one....

CHEYENNE AND BABY ISABELLA....

Cheyenne is a branded Mustang that was rounded up in 2003 from a HMA (herd management area) in Nevada.  Since being adopted she has spent her life in Pennsylvania.  Cheyenne's owner died unexpectedly and even with best intentions was not being cared for.  We gave her a soft place to land just in the nick of time.  Cheyenne arrived at our rescue on a Sunday afternoon and while unloading her discovered that she was going to foal any day....and by Tuesday morning, a sweet filly we affectionately named Isabella arrived.  Like all of our rescued horses these two are near and dear to our hearts and were meant to cross our path for a purpose.   More will be revealed down the road but Mamma and baby are doing well and learning to trust humans again.
